CARL VANDYKE RAGSDALE, age 78, of Montgomery, TX., died June 22, 2003. Carl was born in Ilmo, MO. The son of Iona and Vandyke Ragsdale. A Navy Captain, he had 42 years of Navy Service and was decorated with 17 medals and 15 service ribbons in WWII, Korea and the Cold War. Carl graduated from Denison University. He was a pioneer in the TV industry. During his career as a motion picture producer in New York City and Houston, he produced over 150 documentaries and theatrical films. Carl received every award possible in the motion picture industry, including the OSCAR. Carl was a 50 year member of the Shrine, the Scottish Rite and a 32 Degree Mason in the Masonic Lodge in Houston. Capt. Ragsdale founded the Texas Commandery of the Naval Order of the U.S., and was responsible for building the USS Houston CA-30 Monument in Sam Houston Park. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Diane Ragsdale; his son, John; daughter, Susan Ragsdale Nevers; niece, Mary Jeane Woodle; 6 grandchildren, 2 great nephews and 2 great nieces. Visitation will start at 9:00am, Wednesday, June 25, 2003. With a Funeral Service at 10:30am in Earthman Resthaven Chapel. Interment will follow in Houston National Cemetery. A Final Tribute for Carl will be held with a memorial service on board the Battleship Texas, at a later date. The family has requested that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Houston, TX.
