PHC James W. "Jake" McCombs, USN, Ret passed away July 16 at age 86. Born July 10, 1925 in Selcoa, Alabama he enlisted in the Navy shortly after graduating High School. On retirement he lived in Jacksonville, Florida until 1966 when he moved the family to Cocoa, Florida where he went to work at Kennedy Space Center as manager of their photo lab. After retirement from KSC he enjoyed a relaxed life with his wife Carol until her passing in February 2003.
He is survived by son James R. (Soon) McCombs, daughter Brenda L. (Tim) Heeke and son William Carl McCombs (Deceased 7-28-11), 2 brothers, 1 sister and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
